So yeah, this little guy is Mackenzie Thorpe's creation. He is a man whose artwork I kinda fell in love with when I first saw him in a gallery. I did this piece during a summer class once and based it quite a lot off of his sculpture here - yet it does have it's differences, mainly because I would never have been able to make the heart float that high up with only clay at the time
I really just loved this character; his facelessness and the stark contrast between his black little coat and pale white skin. He was adorable and had such emotion in all of the pieces I saw him in Here are may favorite one [link] [link] [link]
So check out his website and enjoy some more of his innocent, child-like works and enjoy my own interpretation!
Nice replication. The mixed mediums are really well-thought out. It's like the world is all black and white, dead and frozen, and deviod of emotion, but for this thin stream of red weaving throuhg and binding everything. Life? Death? Fate? Love? What I like best are the contrasts- rigitity to flexibility, black and white to colour, opacity to transparency. Where did you get the inspiration for the ribbon?
Wow thanks. I just love how you describe things. The ribbon...hmm... I think I just wanted this broken heart, but I needed a way to hold it together and this is where the ribbon came frome. I recently repainted the whole thing (the heart had been reddish but the paint was chipping and I didn't have anything that color in my room) So I decided to repaint it black, but first I went hunting for just the right ribbon and this was the one. I wanted to keep some color in the piece and I knew red was the right color. It probably wasn't as important a decision as you may think it. I just needed a way to bring the heart down to earth yet I still wanted it to be unique instead of just a heart sitting there. So hence the brokenness and the ribbon to hold it all together.
aw I'd love to have that. you are able to interpret a lot of things in it. at first I thought a bit of chocolate.. "sweet love, broken" the guy is great, too! xD
I just .. that does have such a yester year charm to it. All block colours but it does have a sort of gentleness to it that I think does reflect the source material as well. Like be careful cause this heart is fragile.
